Why We Meditate

…we agree to meditate daily…

Spiritual Empowerment

Meditation, as inspired by Rev. Dr. Leon Edward Wright and practiced at Covenant Christian Community, is also known as the “Creative Silence.” It is through the practice of this discipline that we become spiritually empowered to navigate the human experience successfully.

Meditation as Dr. Wright taught involves a preparatory regimen of deep breathing exercises intended to help members cleanse their consciousness of anxiety, tension, and distractions so that they open to the experience of the indwelling Spirit of God.

Preparation for meditation may also include gentle stretches, like those used in yoga exercises, or slow rhythmic body movements, like those practiced in Tai Chi.  All of these are designed to calm the body, mind, and spirit and enable finer attunement to the presence of the Divine within.

The preparatory period is followed by a singular focusing of the individual’s conscious scanning of the body and final disappearance into the heart center where one becomes aligned with the highest frequency of Divine energy the silence can provide.  There, in the Great Silence, the connection with one’s own sacred essence and attunement to God can occur.

Covenant members agree to meditate daily.
