Enrich Your Spiritual Journey
We agree to meditate daily…
Meditation
Meditation, as practiced by Covenant Christian Community, is a spiritual discipline also known as the “Creative Silence.” Its purpose is to enable the practitioner to make direct contact with the God of their understanding and become spiritually empowered to live successful and fulfilling lives.
Covenant members prepare to enter the “Creative Silence” using gentle body stretching, relaxing breathing exercises, conscious body scanning, and mindful emersion into high energy frequencies that the silence provides. This preparation can result in relief from stress, tension, and distractions that make it difficult to connect with the indwelling Spirit of God.
Once at ease and calm, meditators are invited to focus on the heart center into which they can disappear and remain still, communing with God in their own sacred ground. This form of meditative practice was introduced to Covenant by Dr. Leon Edward Wright, the spiritual inspiration for the founding of this community.

Worship and Study
Join Worship Service
Currently, Covenant is worshipping virtually on the Zoom platform. We are in conversation with members of Seekers Church where our in-person worship takes place to determine when we will return to worship in the sanctuary and how we might conduct hybrid worship services.

Disciplined Study
Covenant members study literature and other art forms in community together among ourselves and with other faith communities. Most recently these have included:

From Cult to Cosmos: Can Jesus Be Saved?
– Dr. Leon Edward Wright
A summary of the insights of Rev. Dr. Leon Edward Wright, a New Testament scholar whose examination of the words of Jesus inspired him to encourage Christians to focus on the teachings OF Jesus as distinct from the teachings ABOUT Jesus. He suggests that in doing so, Christianity will become more relevant and effective in its ministry to contemporary society.

“HAMILTON”
– Lin-Manuel Miranda
One of the most exciting and masterful Broadway musicals of our time which lifts contemporary political, racial, and ethical issues against the uniquely American historical setting at the founding of its fledgling democratic republic.

Of Water and Spirit: Ritual, Magic and Initiation in the Life of an African Shaman
– Dr. Malidoma Patrice Some
An autobiographical glimpse at the stunningly rich spiritual life of the Dagara people in Burkina Faso, whose history and background laid the foundation for the development, mysticism, scholarship, and success of this prominent spokesperson for honoring African cultural and spiritual traditions.

Joy Unspeakable: Contemplative Practices of the Black Church
– Dr. Barbara A. Holmes
A journey through the history of African Americans from the African continent to the contemporary era in the United States with a look at the many traditional and non-traditional contemplative practices that have supported their survival and success in American society.

The Third Jesus
– Deepak Chopra
An examination of Jesus, his importance, and messages from three perspectives: historical, Biblical, and mystical.
Community Service
Covenant members serve their communities in collective and individual ways.
We do so by modeling the practice of meditation and exhibiting its spiritual value in transforming lives. Collectively, we address the needs of those who are food insecure and provide support for housing and community cultural institutions. We minister to those with physical and emotional needs and take church to those who cannot come to church. Individually, we: provide educational services to children; instruct individuals in the practice of meditation; address the needs of citizens returning from incarceration and provide arts programs for adults and children.
